This Thursday's "Sharing the Love" story is that of a lucky little puppy found by an angel and all the heroes who have given this little darling a second chance at life.
On a dark night many weeks ago, Courtney Mason spotted two little eyes alongside the road. She turned around and went back to find a broken puppy, hit by a car and left. Courtney called Animal Control and the officer on call came and found Mahalah, a 6 month old puppy. Isle of Wight County Animal Shelter took her to the vet for x-rays and they found she had a broken pelvis and a broken shoulder at the growth plate. Chief Larry Wilson authorized volunteer Noa Alexander to reach out to Dr. Attia at Pungo Vet Clinic. Dr. Attia recommended a specialist and Dr, Murphie of Anderson's Corner Animal Hospital was called. Volunteers Nancy D'Amico and Emily Glickman got Mahalah safely to her destination. Gimme Shelter volunteered to pay for Mahalah's veterinary care so the surgery could be performed. Dr. Murphie pinned both breaks and is continuing to work with Mahalah through acupuncture and will provide an additional surgery to remove the shoulder pins and then spay her when she is able to walk on her own. Mahalah is currently in foster care, where she is a happy, loving girl while she heals. She currently has to be carried around everywhere while nerve damage heals but she is expected to be able to walk on her own soon. She's a little trooper who is slowly heading toward recovery. Dr. Murphie told the foster family....lots of time and patience is needed as she heals, It won't be an overnight fix. Mahalah loves everyone and has a wonderful, shining spirit that melts every heart along the way of her journey!
